Arriving by car

Coming to Mont-Saint-Michel by car

By enabling the site to recover its maritime character, visitors are provided with a fully redesigned access. A dyke section (1,187 yards long), slightly set off to the East, now leads to a walkway bridge at the end of the path (831 yards). This gives the walkway a renewed maritime feeling, and a ford (131 yards long) leads to the village year-round, except when tidal coefficients are higher than 110 (a few hours a year). The Mount then becomes an island, set in the middle of its original backdrop...

Accessing the Mont-Saint-Michel parking area by car

The parking area can be accessed via the following roads:

  • A11 towards Le Mans/Laval, exit at Fougères then head towards Mont-Saint-Michel
  • A13 towards Caen, then A84 towards Mont-Saint-Michel

Within the framework of this renewed maritime character, visitors arriving by car can park their vehicle in the large parking area. As soon as you arrive, you will be directed to the parking section dedicated to private cars (lower than 5 m).

Accessing the shuttles from the parking area

The shuttles leave from the parking area, just next to the Tourist Information Centre. Signposts indicate which way to go as soon as you get out of your car.

How do you access the "Mont-Saint-Michel" shopping area?

Barriers now filter visitors' access to the hamlet of Mont-Saint-Michel, located between the parking area and the Place du Barrage (dam). To access the hamlet, you need to have made a reservation in one of the local hotels (the establishments located within the walls of Mont-Saint-Michel are not concerned). The single-use code, sent to you with your booking, is required to pass the barriers installed across the road leading to the Mont-Saint-Michel hamlet, also known as the Route de la Caserne. You can then park your car in the private car park belonging to the hotel in which you have booked, and can pursue your visit.

Access to Mont-Saint-Michel is then possible by foot, using the free 'Passeur' shuttle bus or thanks to the 'Maringote' horse-drawn carriages (paying).

If you have not booked in one of these hotels, please park your car in the parking area and go to the hotel or restaurant of your choice on foot

How do you access the Mont-Saint-Michel hotels (within the city walls) up on the rock?

If you have booked a room in a hotel within the Mont-Saint-Michel walls, a special welcome is planned for you. When booking, the hotel will provide you with an access code, which will grant you access to the P3 car park - reserved for customers staying in hotels within the Mont-Saint-Michel walls. Type in this single-use code at the barrier and collect your ticket To get to your hotel, hop on the 'Passeur' shuttle bus (free), that leaves from the shuttle hub.
